Engaging Recreational Activities
At The Center of Human Environment, our residents have numerous indoor and outdoor activities available to them year-round. We have created a space that interests everyone, men or women, who join us.
Spearing on the ice is one of our many available outdoor activities for residents to enjoy. There are many fish to be found in our local waters but one of Minnesota's largest fish, the northern pike, can also be found in most lakes and rivers in the area.
In the spring, we purchase approximately 100 chicks to raise in the brooding house. Most grow to about 8-10 pounds. We also raise pheasants and release them into the wild once they mature.
If gardening is your thing, then this is a great place to check out. Our residents have approximately six gardens that they attend to. Several of our residents start their seeds early in one of our sun-drenched rooms. As you can see, they have a great start before planting, which allows for some abundant harvests at the center.
When the weather turns nice, we like to frequent to the Itasca State Park and spend the day floating on the pontoon, fishing, or just seeing the sights. Itasca is one of the most beautiful state parks Minnesota has to offer. We are very fortunate to have such an amazing resource so close to the center.
Some of our residents like to unwind in the game room with a friendly game of pool or foosball. Others just enjoy a good work out in our weight room, on the treadmill or pedaling away on a stationary bike. If indoor activity is not for you, check out the basketball hoop outside or take a scenic walk on our trails.
We also have a small library that is filled with books, games, and videos. We also have a small library that is filled with books, games, and videos. We also have 2 computers for unlimited internet access and a resident phone that allows long distance phone calls at no additional charge. If our library doesn't have what you are looking for, we take regular trips to the town, which includes stops at the public library, bank, and stores for shopping.
We welcome guests to visit our residents and enjoy the various recreational activities with them because we know family friends are the best support system available for our residents.
